The day was selected to honor the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Mr. Choudhary Charan Singh. He was born on December 23, 1902.

History of National Farmers Day:
The Kisan Leader Chaudhary Charan Singh served India for a very very short time – a little time from July 28, 1979, to January 14, 1980. The Kisan Leader Chaudhary Charan Singh introduced several popular
Welfare schemes for the farmers and wrote several books on problems of farmers and their problems depicting various solutions to improve the lives of the farmers of India positively.

Therefore the Indian government, in 2001, decided to mark Charan Singh's birth anniversary as Kisan Diwas.
Activities on NATIONAL FARMERS' DAY
On Farmer's day on 23rd December every year, several debates, forums, discussions, quizzes, and competitions are organized to discuss the various issues related to farmers and cultivation. As well as awareness programs promote in villages school.
Kisan Goshthis were organized in which the scientists and farmers shared their knowledge on various aspect of farming on national farmers day.
