Overcoming Entropy: Preserving Order in a Chaotic Universe : Inner view of ANWARHUSEN J RAYMA Teacher of Adani Public School Mundra - Kutch

Entropy prevails in the whole universe… The second law of thermodynamics states that things get scattered. Everything gradually gets worse. And so…to keep them in good shape…to keep things in an organized manner efforts must be made… everything.. whether it is an institution, a relationship, a family or friendship…there are thousands of probabilities things may go south and they may fall apart. And so, people who value them, who don’t want this to have happened, don’t let it happen and they never get tired of putting effort and never allow entropy to damage any of the things they care whether that is an organization, a company, a group of like-minded people or it’s a relationship. They always try to keep relations with their close ones to remain loving and healthy and keep an institution well organized and work-friendly. Families stay together when members of the families are willing to enjoy togetherness.

Actually, I intended to share how the Covid situation could have increased the entropy but the efforts of my team..Team APS…at Adani Public School…could smoothly achieve the goal of reaching students from the very beginning of the lockdown and how right now we can see the happy faces of our children and positive feedbacks of their satisfied parents. They all, in one voice.. reverberated the story of successfully imparted education throughout these catastrophic conditions, meanwhile, changes were made in school policies, changes in the types of apps and software we use to keep ourselves as much accessible to students and parents as possible.

Initially, teaching began with Zoom where everyone was willing to help and guide each other about various features and tools to make the teaching-learning process effective, efficient, and enjoyable for the children who really might have missed the environment that they get in school premises. The company of friends…little chit-chat with them and mainly playing together during breaks and games classes. We as a teacher tried to give them the feeling of being and playing together, enjoying each class with various interesting teaching techniques and methodologies, and we made them even competing with each other in every possible manner by incorporating different games that boost their scholastic experiences as well so that they don’t miss the fascinating part of schooling and that is healthy competition in all the areas they love to take challenges.

Coming up with a variety of self-made audio-visual tools and adapting techniques that were most suitable for online classes were the mantra of success and were proven impetus to attract them to online classes and giving the best from their side too. There were students whose parents are illiterate or very busy with their day-to-day life and could not pay attention to how the child is doing, whether he/she is joining the class regularly, is she/he able to understand what is taught in online classes and so I observed many of my colleagues and me, too, contacting such parents, having little

informal talk and giving them a gentle reminder to take care of the part where we and the child need their assistance.

What can be called a real team and how teamwork yields the extraordinary results that were modeled and has been exemplary so far, I must accept and I am proud of it. Initially, online classes were conducted on Zoom, but soon there were continuous headlines in print and electronic media about the threats lie with the use of Zoom and school management decided to shift to Microsoft Teams. We used Google Meet also for upper classes where students were more comfortable with the use of this platform.

Again as I said first, about the entropy, chances were there that things get scattered. As it was again a completely new platform but organized efforts were made to get things to work to avoid entropy messing up with all the hard work and enthusiasm so far shown by the teachers and students.

We kept putting efforts to get things done until teachers and students started realizing the benefits of online classes and they were loving their voyage to sail through this COVID storm.

That helped us all to bounce back with extra force, by putting in more effort. I must admit that a Team from Microsoft had come forward to make teachers more familiar with the software and by doing so maximize the output that can be gained by this new mode of reaching to kids. Their help to show the use of a variety of useful features of Microsoft that can help to give the best learning experiences to children encouraged us a lot. The teams' app helped a lot in the smooth functioning of the school, conducting online classes and arranging examinations.

The last two years of online education are definitely worthy of admiration that I can say after seeing our students coming back to regular school with happy faces and recalling all their memories after this long gap of staying home. Most importantly, though the period was full of fear and threats, sickness and sadness, their memories of classes conducted by my team are mesmerizing for them and many parents also shared their experiences that how they got a chance to witness the teaching-learning process, enjoyed it and realized how wonderfully their wards are taught in our school.

Their happiness and appreciation is itself a huge reward for me as a teacher and a proud feeling of being part of such a wonderful team and of the organization that has retained the whole team and never let anyone suffer when we kept hearing and reading news and updates about children missing classes, problems faced by teachers to teach through the online platform, unavailability of mobiles and computers and most painful was parents were not willing or were not capable of paying fees and so many managements were either terminating teachers or were not able to give them salaries, which were unfortunate for the fraternity and students as well.
